David Rivas Vila Wins 5th Annual Spring Blitz!

After the larger scale Labour Day Rapid event in Stanley on 1 May, a smaller crowd of 25 players showed up on Mother's Day, Sunday 13 May, to participate in our annual Blitz. However smaller, the average rating of this group was considerably higher. With 4 players rated well over 2000 and even 2100 there were chess-casualties everywhere after 11 rounds, nobody remained undefeated.

We again had prizes in the age categories U8, U10, U12 and in the Open category. And we had (chocolate) roses for the moms on Mother's day).

In the U8 category the very talented Samuel Lam became Champion and very impressively ended 6th overall! If Samuel continues like this he is slowly turning into one of HK's strongest youth players. Keep it up Samuel!

In U10, the relatively new-in-towner Wilfred Hill-Wood showed he is currently a major force to reckon in this category ending just half point higher than Noah Michishita who is making large improvements recently as well.

In U12 Joseph Yan showed he has by now established himself as a top contender in U12. He scored 6 points like Seth Peramunetilleke did but he ended 2nd on tie-break.

The Open category was very strong with Daniel Lam and Alberto Muniz Pardino participating as the strongest players under HKG federation flag. Under Spanish federation flag David Rivas Vila and Birjkumar Hassomal Daswani were the other top players.

Caissa's David Rivas with 9 points stayed just half a point loose of the other 3 players (2nd Daniel, 3rd Birjkumar, 4th Caissa's Alberto) to claim the Champion title. Congrats David! Also with winning the HKCF Blitz with 11 out of 11 the Monday before this blitz!
