Our Hub for Girls Interested in Chess

Astrid Barbier.jpeg

"What? Did you lose to a girl?!", is a sentence that can definitely be heard at open tournaments where boys can play girls, or even in classroom training settings.

Girls are heavily outnumbered by boys in the chess world. As such the mere chances to lose from a boy increases as more and more girls stop playing, a further demotivating factor to continue.

I am WFM Astrid Barbier and I went through it, know all about it, and I am here at Caissa to guide our girl chess program trying to make chess a great activity for all genders.

New: Girls-Only Classes from January 2025

We have reserved our Sheung Wan centre for girls-only classes on:

  • Wednesdays 5-6pm

  • Saturdays 10-11am

This doesn't mean that if you are a girl and take classes now in a mixed group, and you have great fun, you should change. Not at all! But you could now if you wish; bring your best girl friend along to try out!

FIDE (World Chess Federation) has divided chess into an Open and Woman category. World-, Regional-, and National Championships hold events in both (separte) categories. In our girls-only classes we can pay a little more attention to prepare for girls-only events or to be ready to play confidently against any boy in an open event. Let how we do it be our little secret...

Register on our registration page.

UPCOMING EVENT

caissa goddess.jpg

Caissa is a nymph-like character often referred to and first mentioned in a poem from the European Renaissance (16th century), as the Goddess of Chess.

Chess legends like Gary Kasparov referred to her on some occasions.

In Europe and across the world there are quite some chess clubs with Caissa in their name

Caissa Hong Kong Chess Club is proud to be among them.
