Big thanks to Scholastic Chess Hong Kong for organising a team event in the age categories U7, U9, U11, U13 and U18.

As Caissa we strongly support team events of clubs, rather normal in mainstream sports like football or basketball: you join a club and you play against other clubs, simple. In other countries such an infrastructure of clubs is the norm also for chess, but not -yet- in Hong Kong.
But nowadays, we have some chess providers who offer quality training and who can organise quality events, like HKYCA and TCA. Conditions for a club infrastructure are getting in place.
After the team building pizza chess meeting in Sheung Wan in preparation of the Scholastic Team event on 28 and 29 March, Caissa had also arranged a friendly arena Lichess training event with HKYCA, which was joined by over 50 players. We were ready for the chess weekend!
Saturday 28 March
Caissa U7 (left to right): Nicholas, Joseph, Alexander, Richard with Coach Nomi and Caissa U9: Spencer, Ethan, Shayne and Anson with Coach Matthew.
The Caissa U7 Team was made up of Caissa's youngest talents all high up in the Step Method - and indeed, they were ahead of the pack today, only one board game was lost and for the rest the players won all their games!
The Caissa U9 Team was another HK Champion level team, winning all games except in round 3, against another Hong Kong star-studded team, TCA A. A too early draw acceptance on Caissa board 3, in a pawn up position forced super talent Shayne to play for a win against super talent Jake in a dynamic game that had fizzled out to equality. Because a draw would mean the team would still lose, Shayne played for the win and lost the game. An excellent moment to experience the additional dimension of Team Chess!

The U7 and U9 players performed well, had fun on and off the board, learned a lot, received great support from the parents, as always. As Caissa, we had nothing else to wish for.
Congrats Champions U7 and 2nd Place U9!!!
