After 4 rounds in the Winter 2016 YGP no player with 100% score, 4 players lead with 3.5 points
In round 3 Ulysse pressured Wing Ki the entire game but with many pieces still on the board, and a large time advantage, he settled for a draw. In round 4 the only players with a 100% score then, Nicholas and Ka Pang, also stranded their game into a draw after a very dynamic middle game.
In round 5 next week these four players all with 3.5 points will play against one another on the top 2 boards as follows: Nicholas vs. Wing Ki and Ulysse vs. Ka Pang. We do hope that all the players will not settle too quickly for a draw and benefit fully from experiencing the long time control.

Caissa Winter 2016 YGP - Round 1 and 2 Played
Today 25 players, among Hong Kong's absolute top youth as well as upcoming talents in different age categories, traveled to Sheung Wan for the 1st and 2nd round of the Youth Grand Prix. With thankful endorsement from the Hong Kong Chess Federation Ltd. our YGP is this time FIDE rated and with 11 players out of 25 already with a FIDE rating this is an excellent opportunity for players to get their first rating or to improve on their current one - or lose some rating points ... from which hopefully motivation will emerge to train harder.
In this Open Youth event our Caissa students also face other players, trained elsewhere. After the first 2 rounds our students have held up well but with 4 more rounds to go anything can still happen. Pairing for round 3 on 27 November will be done the Monday 21st noon time and for the round 5 on 4 December the pairing will take place Monday 28 November, noon time. Stay tuned.

September EOM in Discovery Bay Opens the Autumn Cycle
On 24 September around 15 students from outside Discovery Bay had registered to join in with the resident DB students to compete in the 1st edition of the Autumn cycle. They brought back home 6 medals whereas 8 were won by DB students. Glad to see that our students are trained in one single club method and there is virtually no advantage or disadvantage like in a home or away game. Well done!
