While August was a hot and slow month in many ways, September kicked off hotter and faster with our first End of Month training tournament for our beginning and intermediate students.
Group A was limited to 4 players, being the most advanced they had to play with a longer time control and notation encouraged. Gabriel, who in the last few EOMs showed he was clearly too strong for the lower groups, had a good learning experience in this time in Group A to try to get used to the slower time control.
In Group B the players were very close, three players with 3 points and three players with 2 points. The 3-pointers were Ethan Pu who won by tie-break, Channing came 2nd by tie-break and Michelle ended 3rd.
Group C ended with 3 players on with 4 points but as there could not be a tie-break the order was decided by lucky draw, coming 1st Maxwell, 2nd Tiia and 3rd Marcus.
Group D, traditionally a lot of draws as the students are sharpening their check mating skills, saw Gordon end 1st with 4 points, followed by Parth with 3.5 points and Julien with 3 points.
