My First Moves - 8 February

Following the succes of the first one we organised the second edition of our very own beginner's tournament: "MFM" short for "My First Moves" on 8 February.

At Caissa we believe that even from a very young age, students can start enjoying the fun of competition. That's why we offer this special tournament, where only our own students play in a safe environment. For the B-group, we have mini-games, while the A-group builds towards "real" games.

Although we focus a lot on having fun, also offering arts and crafts in between the rounds, this is still a tournament. Let's have a look at the results!

We invited assistant/student coach Lolly Chen again. Along with Coach Matthew and Coach Sunny she guided our students throughout the tournament and saw how Ulysse topped the table after 6 double rounds (12 games against 6 opponents), only losing two games.

They were having so much fun here, we even added one extra double round compared to the orginally planned 5 double rounds!

Congratulatons to Ulysse and all medal winners!

Here, things were very clear from early on. Quinton Or didn't allow anyone to come close and won all of his games. With this he becomes the first player in Caissa history to win both the B-group and the A-group back to back, with a perfect score for that matter!

In this group, they got a first taste of "proper" games with a clock. A special experience for many of them.

Congratulations to all medal winners!

At this age, regulating emotions can still be difficult. Handling a loss is not easy in chess, while calming yourself down after a win and respect the opponent might even be more difficult.

Everyone who had trouble with this today, will grow out of this after a couple more MFM/EOM cycles and will be ready to become fully fledged tournament players if they want to!

See you next time!

And as always, we have a lot of pictures for you to relive the day:

Everyone got a certificate of participation!

A lot of atmosphere pictures!
