Caissa Summer Blitz 2026

Over twenty players made up an interesting field for our first Summer tournament. All ratings ranges from unrated up until 1700 were represented with Ruhao Liu (1942) clearly ahead of the pack. We used the usual concept: seven double rounds for a total of fourteen games.

On the night of 19 to 20 July, Spain and Argentina are playing the finals of the FIFA World Cup. Lots of drama and conspiracy theories have been surrounding the tournament and anyone who follows football a bit, knows that the stakes are as high as they can get.

Alberto, arbiter of the day, is avid fan of his Spanish national team and will for sure get up early to support them. Needless to say, Argentina fans currently aren't his favorite people to be around. One participant obliviously was wearing a fan shirt, for a split second Alberto had to consider disqualifying that player but decided to stay professional instead. If the biggest drama of the tournament is a player wearing an Argentina fan shirt, you know everything went smoothly.

All jokes aside, let's delve into the results!

Ruhao (12.5) raced through the first six games, defeating Kwan Yat Calix Leung in rounds five and six. A result which would turn out to be very relevant later on the tournament. Only Ivan Choi was able to match the pace and followed closely with 5.5/6.

In their direct encounter, Ruhao kept Ivan at a distance with drawing both games. Ruhao won the remainder of his games, only drawing the very last round when first place was already secured. Congratulations Ruhao for a dominant display!

In second place we find Calix (10.5). He stayed a bit under the radar after his early 0-2 loss against Ruhao followed by a 1-1 tie against Man Ho Nathan Huang. Then, however, he scored 5.5/6 to wrap up his tournament, including a 1.5-0.5 win over Ivan. Congratulations to the youngster for a very solid performance.

Ivan (9) went home with the third place trophy. He slowed down a little bit after a very strong start but managed to stay half a point ahead of the pack consisting of Aravind Mahadevan (8.5), Amartya Shiv Agarwal (8.5) and Jonas Yee Shun Lau (8.5) who shared placed four to six in that order.

Yu Fung Ng and Shun Wang Liu (Ernest) took the U12 and U10 prizes home while Tsz Yin Lam (Alyssa) won the best girl prize.
