EOM Spring Cycle: Leg 1

26 April - It is the last Sunday of the month. Spring is well underway, Easter Break has come and gone and the schools have started again. It is the last Sunday of the month - that can only mean one thing: it's time to kick off the last EOM cycle of the 25/26 school year. Can the promovendi from last cycle confirm their progress, are there newcomers who might surprise us, who will claim the Spring Cycle after the last leg on 14 June? Let's delve into the results of the first leg!

C/D

After three rounds we had three players with a perfect score: Fox Wang, Eli Guan and Yichen Bai. Fox won the direct encounter against Eli while Yichen was held to a drew by D-group player Clark Chih Hung Tsai who was playing a strong event so far. That means Fox would have enough with a draw to clinch first, but he did nothing of the sort and completed his domination of the field by defeating Lucas Cheng and race to first place with a perfect score. Clark took the first place D-group trophy home.

A/B

Also here, we only saw three players staying perfect after three rounds: Kyle Chui, Jayden Luk and Daniel Luu. Kyle took on Jayden as Black and won that game, while Daniel also stayed perfect with a black win over Nicholas Cher. The other players smelled blood as we saw no draws this round, something that doesn't happen too often, we like this fighting spirit!

In the final game between Daniel and Kyle for the top spot, both players had chances but it was Daniel who showed the better nerves and capitalized on a blunder by Kyle.

Kyle (4/5) deservedly clinched second place with a better tiebreak than Sheldion Liu (4/5 and B-group winner) and Jayden (4/5).

Daniel is now the fifth A/B group winner in a row with a perfect score since Yu Fung Ng and Zanna Zee shared place with 4/5 in October 2025. Who came before him?
