While most eyes of the chess community in Hong Kong were focused on the Hong Kong Junior Chess Championships on 25 May, we opened the doors for our first Caissa Girls Open Rapid.

20 girls from Caissa, The Chess Academy and other places gathered together to fight for the honours over six exciting rounds. Coach Astrid and WIM Chirivi C Jenny stayed perfect for three rounds before facing off in round 4.

After a long game with chances for both sides, it was Jenny who managed to win. She didn’t look back after and clinched first place with 6/6. Coach Astrid also won her remaining games and took second place.

Special shoutout to Zanna Zee for winning yet another trophy, coming in third. She only had to surrender to the coaches. Hei Lam Wong, Vivienne Chen and Lakshika Jain took the fourth, fifth and sixth place trophies home.
Sunny Cheng, Claire Sun and Sallie King managed to win the Under 12, 10 and 8 categories. Congratulations to all the winners!

Arbiter Coach David saw many happy faces in a cosy atmosphere throughout the afternoon. This was a successful first edition and we at Caissa are looking forward to our next girls events, so stay tuned for that!
