Singapore International School Wins Caissa Age Group School Championship 2021
On December 19, the second leg of the Caissa Age Group School Championship 2021 took place in the splendid Zetland Hall: this time it was the U8 and U6 age categories to battle it out on the boards for individual and school glory. As a reminder, after 21 November when U10 and U12 played in the same venue, GSIS was leading, followed by Harrow, NAIS, SIS and Malvern. U12 Youth Melson Cheng Wins Open Group Caissa Autumn Rapid
The yearly recurring Caissa Autumn Rapid (15m+5s) was played over 7 rounds spread out over two Sundays afternoons. 40 players visited the Caissa Sheung Wan centre to figure out who would still be able to bring home a Champion title in the last moments of the year 2021. GSIS Leads in Caissa Age Groups School Championship 2021 after U10 and U12 Tournament
On 21 November over 50 players representing 23 schools gathered at the majestic Zetland Hall for the first leg of the Caissa Age Group School Championship, played in the U10 and U12 age groups. The second leg for U6 and U8 will be played on 19 December. The tournament is a 6 rounds rapid (15 minutes + 3 seconds increment) event with individual prizes and counting the points of the top 4 players of each schools, also with school prizes. Ben Han Wins Zetland Start of Season - Niilo Nissinen Champion Summer Moves Grand Prix
On 15 September, normally on Sundays closed Zetland Hall opened its doors again to host the Caissa last leg of the Summer Moves 2021 Grand Prix. From halfway August until the event at Zetland, which was also the Start of Season event, a total of 8 events were organized, 6 FIDE rated (see here for report on events 1 and 2, events 3 and 4, and event 5). Daniel Secures Last-Round-Decided 1st Place - Niilo Stays on Top of Grand Prix with Two Events to Go
Evening chess is rare in Hong Kong nowadays. SATURDAY evening chess, especially FIDE rated, was maybe a first time in Hong Kong last week. New and old faces, a total of 15 players, met at Sheung Wan to decide over 9 rounds blitz who would be the ultimate evening star. Nilo Came, Saw and Conquered Top Spot in Summer Moves Grand Prix
Discovery Bay Sunday 22 August: sunny blue skies outside but thunder and lightning on the boards in our 3rd and 4th Grand Prix tournaments in the Caissa Summer Moves series. Tang Tsz Sang Leads Caissa Summer Moves Grand Prix after Two Events
With 6 FIDE rated events as part of the densely packed Caissa Summer Moves 7-leg Grand Prix, spread out over only 5 weeks in August and September, there has never been a bigger opportunity in Hong Kong to get a FIDE rating or to work on boosting a FIDE rating up. Two Hundred Students Attend Caissa Summer Camps
With 16 camps spread out over the summer weeks, two camps per day all at full capacity of 12 students per camp, some 200 students worked 3 hours, 5 days per week, to boost their chess skills under guidance of two coaches in each camp. Students worked through Step Method workbooks for tactics, did assignments around strategy, were walked through instructive games from world champions and of course had lots of supervised play. David Garceran Nieuwenburg Wins Caissa Spring Rapid 2021
Played over two Sundays, 13 and 20 June, 36 players arrived at Caissa Sheung Wan Centre to play for the Caissa Spring Rapid 2021 title. The event was not FIDE rated, once in a while an asset for our youngest talents who would not be too cramped and afraid to lose rating points can try out more adventurous play. FM Daniel Lam Wins Caissa Spring Blitz 2021
After the Caissa organized FIDE rated OTB Rapid event at Zetland and the FIDE rated OTB Standard Spring League, the Caissa Spring Blitz held on 6 June was for now the last of the FIDE rated OTB event in Hong Kong. The blitz event, 5m3s over 9 rounds Swiss, attracted 38 players. FM Daniel Lam, the highest rated player at the event, translated this in overwhelming firepower and with 8.5 points he claimed the Champion title, 1.5 points away from 2nd Place, good-old youth talent
